Local companies show support for Tsunami appeal
Leamington Spa Cricket Club provided the venue for an evening of entertainment on the 12th March, where around 80 guests welcomed the opportunity to show their support for a Tsunami aid fund, being supported by the Bishops Itchington parish church council.
Two bands, Odd Job and Rooster, provided entertainment and kindly waived their performance fees in support of the event. With raffle ticket sales and generous donations made by two prominent local companies, Coventry-based Drop-On Carriers and Larch Consulting Ltd. of Leamington Spa, the total raised was in excess of £2000.
Drop-On Carriers, who donated £500, is about to launch a new product on to the market which can accommodate up to four bikes and can be easily adjusted to carry a range of other items including camping gear, golf bags or skiing equipment. Designed to quickly and easily fit onto any vehicle with a tow bar – making it safer and less hassle to fit than conventional strap-on alternatives, the robust Drop-On Carrier system is available in two models. FreeTail is made from tubular steel, while the latest version, FreeSpace, comes in stylish, lightweight aluminium.
Nigel Stokes of Drop-On Carriers comments: “The organisers did a fantastic job and the evening was thoroughly enjoyable. Everyone showed their support for the Tsunami appeal by making donations, which I hope will help to restore some quality of life to those still suffering from the after-effects of the disaster.”
The Tsunami left much of coastal South-East Asia destroyed and in the aftermath, many of its inhabitants without homes, food or water supplies. A natural disaster on a huge scale, which left hundreds of thousands dead, the world was shaken on December 26th by the horrific images of giant waves consuming palm-fringed beaches in seconds.
Organised by dedicated trio Julia Edwards, Jo Lord and Richard Woodhead, the event raised money which will be used specifically to rebuild homes and schools in the Phuket area of Thailand.
